Sebastian's Birthday and OU 06/27/08
coffee (too busy)
Lunch
3/4 cup of spaghetti
Snack:
BIRTHDAY CAKE!!!
Dinner
mashed potatoes (made using low fat buttermilk--only 1.5 grams of fat per cup--which is obviously preferable to using butter, whole milk, or cream) mixed with lean ground beef
1/2 cup green beans
Water Intake: 84.5 oz=10 1/2 cups
Since I skipped breakfast for a second day, I decided I needed to get something that doesn't require "fixing",so to speak, or even sitting down. So, I got some Slim Fast powder stuff. This is also helpful because we didn't do our grocery shopping with the healthy eating thing in mind, so this way I can have stuff to "eat" throughout the day without doing more grocery shopping until next payday.
Saturday afternoon:
So yesterday was Sebastian's birthday!! Yay!!! He was super stoked about his cake and the few presents he got. I made his cake using a yellow cake mix and white frosting that I dyed green. I dyed both the cake and the icing a very Hulk-like green. I tried to get as close to Hulk color as possible. I had to use the whole bottle of green plus all of the blue and yellow to have enough green. I also set some frosting aside and dyed it blue for the Hulk's jeans. Justin was all "You should dye it purple cause in the comic books, Hulk always wears purple pants", to which I replied "Sebastian don't know jack about no Hulk comic books. All he knows about is modern day Hulk", so that pretty much settled that. As I said previously, he'll get another something or other next week, but as it stands, he got the shirt I made him, the headband I made him, some Naruto weapons from the lovely Nikki, and a rubber Batman mask thing. Oh, and the Naruto headband we bought him last week was one of his presents also. But, honestly, he's 5 and he doesn't need a crapload of presents.
So, here's him with his cake:
He's got some kind of aversion to actually looking at the camera:
And look at the inside of the cake!!!!!! Rockin!!!!!!
That brown is just the table showing through the glass cake pan, in case you're wondering.
Here's the shirt I made him!
Front:
That's Inuyasha, the title character. He's a half demon, which explains his crazy ears and fingernails.
Back:
That's the Japanese logo for the show. I had a bit of a crisis with that part of the shirt. I'm always hesitant when I do a multi-layer stencil. I get nervous about ironing the freezer paper too hard onto the already dry layer of paint because I always worry that the freezer paper is gonna screw up the paint when I pull it up after doing the second color. Anyway, I didn't iron it down good enough and the red bled all underneath it and I had to go around with a very small brush and clean up all the edges of the kanji. That sucked. But, if you look here:

that's the actual logo. Not too far off, right? Now, most importantly, here's a picture of my little weirdo wearing his new shirt:
He's such a cute little guy! Now, a few things about the cake. I made it the healthy way, using egg whites and applesauce rather than whole eggs and oil. Surprisingly enough, it tasted exactly the same as it does when you make it the traditional way. Also, notice my food log and pay special attention to the fact that I stuck to plan the whole rest of the day and only had the one piece of cake. That is HUGELY significant for me. Normally, I would've used the birthday cake as an excuse to throw away the whole day and just eat whatever I wanted all day long. Plus, I definitely would have had more than one piece. I did neither of those things and that is SUCH a big deal for me and the way my personality works. That's all for today! I'm off to work on my secret project and do some laundry!

3 egg whites and 1 whole egg, scrambled with 2 slices of ultra thin sliced deli ham
baked potato with Molly McButter

2 dill pickles

1 1/2 cups of Kashi Go Lean with skim milk
Water intake:
67.6 oz=8.45 cups
Ok, so my awesome friend Nikki was wanting to get rid of her GameCube so she sent it to us. Sebastian was playing it yesterday and he came to a part where there was a bridge with a little guard on it. He got past the guard and said "Hey, mom! That guard let me on the bridge because I sweet talked him!". Teehee!! On the same game, he was in a cave and there was a cave drawing of the lead character, Zelda, and a dinosaur. There were no words or anything, but Sebastian said "Mom, it says 'I must fight the mighty dinosaur'". Hahahaha!!! The way he gets so specific sometimes just cracks me up!
Also, Justin misplaces things all the time. Invariably, he blames one of us for taking whatever thing it is and putting it somewhere else, when, in reality, he's usually taken it and put it somewhere else. So, he'll walk around looking for it, getting progressively more annoyed and saying repeatedly "How does a _____________ just walk off?!!!!". And the longer it takes him to find the thing, whatever it is, the louder he says that phrase. Funnily enough, it's usually either something that none of us has any use for (his glasses, his belt, one shoe, etc.) or something that none of us will touch under threat of death (his wallet, his iPod, his Xbox controller, etc.). Anyway, Sebastian had stashed the wireless controller to the GameCube in his room so Dorian couldn't mess with it and then this morning, he couldn't remember where he put it. So, he just walked around in a loop from the living room to his room about 15 times, saying repeatedly "It couldn't just walk off!!!!". Heeehee!!! He kills me!
Anyway, I finished the Naruto headband! Here it is! Keep in mind that it was really hard to get a decent picture of it. Mostly because the flash kept making a glare, so I turned the flash off, which makes the picture all blurry, but you can see the symbol better that way.
Here it is next to the $25 one.
And sure, it's not nearly as awesome, but considering that the one I made cost $0, it's pretty awesome.
Here's a better shot of the symbol:
So, I kind of loosely followed the instructable. Basically, I just followed the part of the directions for the can. I didn't use the template on there because I used the headband Sebastian already had as a template. I cut the shape a little bigger all the way around and then rolled the edges under so Sebastian might avoid killing himself with any sharp edges. Also, I didn't use brads for the circles on the sides, I used a hole puncher to cut little circles out of the rest of the can and I glued the circles down with super glue. I used an old pair of maternity jeans and super glued the silver part to the jean fabric and then cut the jean fabric to size. Then, I cut the band out of the top of the maternity jeans and used that as the headband part. it was the perfect length and width, and since it was already in a tube shape, all I had to sew were the ends. Awesome! We had some industrial stick on velcro, so I just used that to attach the metal plate to the headband. For the symbol, I traced the symbol onto my template for the metal plate and then used one of my bamboo knitting needles to kind of "emboss" it on there. Then, it wasn't really dark enough so I used a sharpie to fill it in. That was too dark, so I used some scissors and kind of scraped away a good bit of the sharpie, then used a paintbrush dipped in alcohol to smooth the sharpie back together, but a much lighter shade than the original black. So, anyway, I think it turned out pretty good for costing absolutely no money!

Snack:
6 oz yogurt w/1/4 cup of Kashi Go Lean

Dinner:
grilled boneless, skinless chicken breast
baked potato with Molly McButter
1/2 cup of green beans

6 oz. yogurt
Thursday morning:
So, I managed to drink my 4 bottles of water yesterday! Since I've been on straight water for a couple days, I decided that yesterday would be the day that I start trying to drink a certain amount every day. I'm using a 16.9 oz bottle, so my goal is to drink 4 of those per day and I did it yesterday, no sweat! Another mini goal off my list!
Time for Funny Stuff that Sebastian Says!!!!! Justin bought a carton of egg whites from Wal-Mart because I have a trick for eating scrambled eggs. I use 3 egg whites and one whole egg (more protein, very little fat, but still has a regular egg taste). So, the carton looks like one of those cartons of 1/2 and 1/2, except there's a picture of a chicken on it. Sebastian looked at it and said "Hey, is that chicken milk?!". Hahahah!!!!
Now, I'm working on something secret!!! I'm not saying what it is because it's for someone who reads this blog, but here's a hint:

I'm almost done with the Naruto headband. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have to sew. It'll be easier in the long run than trying to rig up all the heat n' bond crap. Plus, I've come up with an ingenious way to make it washable. More on that later when I finish it. Which should be in the next couple hours because I have to do his shirt since his birthday is tomorrow!!!! Yippie!!
Anyway, I guess that's all for now. Buhbye!
Stop the Presses!!!
You've heard the expression, "don't judge a book by its cover"; teenage brothers Damien and Tourie Escobar are a perfect example. When you first spy the New York duo's streetwise style, you may expect them to start rapping, but then you hear their violins, and an entirely profound and altogether surprising sound awakens from their souls. Dubbed N.B.S or Nuttin But Stringz, the talented young musicians play an intense blending of classical music, jazz, r&b, and yes, hip hop.
Tourie and Damien studied at the Juliard School of Music and Bloomingdale School of Music and have taken their mastered skill to startling heights to include the world famous APOLLO THEATER, JAY LENO SHOW and ELLEN SHOW, just to name a few.
Growing up in the inner city, Damien was the first to take up the violin at the ripe young age of eight. His passion for the sound was all the inspiration his older sibling Tourie needed. Their combined uniqueness and brilliance, along with support from a close family, makes it easy for NBS to push the envelope on their style and further mold themselves into future stars. The uproar building around N.B.S. started underground in Manhattan and their upcoming debut cd and stage show is greatly anticipated by the masses.
Finally, here's some video of them from an appearance they did on Jack's Big Music Show on the Noggin channel. They are AMAZING!
There are lots more videos of them floating around on YouTube, but I liked this one a lot because of all the little kids dancing. Awesome!!!!!!
P.S. Thanks to Tameka for having "Conversate" Is Not a Word on her blog list. One of my new favorite reads!

Operation Unfat: Update for Tuesday, June 24
6 oz. yogurt with 1/4 cup of Kashi Go Lean
Lunch
3/4 cup of spaghetti
dill pickle
Snack
3 slices of ultra thin sliced deli ham wrapped around some broccoli slaw
cup of coffee
Dinner
broiled center cut boneless pork chop (trimmed of any visible fat), sliced and tossed with broccoli slaw and some low fat ginger pear dressing
1/2 cup corn
Snack
1/2 cup of Kashi Go Lean w/2% milk
1/2 cup of coffee
So I'm doing well with the water drinking. I am allowing myself 1-2 cups of coffee per day, but that's no big (I don't think so anyway). The main thing about the coffee is that I currently use a crazy amount of sugar and have to pare down. I generally use about 6 teaspoons. Today, I knocked it down to 4 teaspoons. I'll gradually try to get it to a normal/reasonable amount like 2 teaspoons. And I can use the powdered nondairy creamer, which has very little fat or calories. Also, that small indulgence will go a long way towards me not feeling deprived of everything. Cause if I start feeling deprived, the wheels will come off in short order and this ride will come to a screeching halt. In case anyone's interested, further updates will be referred to as OU (Operation Unfat) with the date I'm posting about in numeric form like 06/24/08. Just trying to save some space. Strangely enough, I'm kind of itching to start exercising. But, I'm fighting my instincts on that because, unfortunately, my instincts (where this topic is concerned) are usually wrong. I'm still going to wait a bit on the exercise. I'm kind of scared that I'm gonna try to walk a mile and I'll realize just how out of shape I am and get frustrated and depressed.
In other news, I started on the Naruto headband. So far it's going ok, but we'll see how long that lasts. I really hope it turns out good. I think I'm just going to use some of that heat n' bond stuff for the headband part so then I won't have to sew it. I'm not in a sewing mood.
Oh, hey, check this business out. Remember our ill-fated trip to Knoxville? Yeah, the ill-fated-ness isn't over yet. Check out what we got in the mail:

What's that you say? You need a closer look?

And here's the "photos to the right" that they're talking about:

Click on that one if you want to read my super high tech photoshop captions. Anyway, ain't that a bitch? Damn you, technology!!!!! Oooh and they even include a web address so you can "view a video of your violation". I watched it about 7 times. Good stuff. Tata people!
Operation Unfat: Update for Monday, June 23
Breakfast:
1 cup of Kashi Go Lean w/2% milk
Lunch:
3 egg whites w/1 whole egg, scrambled
a Gogurt
Snack:
a dill pickle
1/2 cup of Kashi Go Lean w/2% milk
Dinner:
3/4 cup of spaghetti (with lean beef)
3/4 cup of green beans
Snack:
1/4 cup of Kashi Go Lean mixed with 6 oz of yogurt
I plan on getting some skim milk but we had 2% and I don't want it to go to waste, so I had that instead. I drank ONLY water all day, yay!!! I think I ended up drinking 3 16 oz. bottles. Somewhere in there, I ate 5 tortilla chips. So, all in all, not bad, eh?
Anyway, moving on. Cranes!!!! I bought 2 more packs of paper and I've folded all the pieces of paper that we've gotten so far. So, I have 37. Now I have to wait till we can buy some more paper. I had to take all the covers off of our couch cushions to wash them so I just put the cranes on there for their photo session.
Here they are, all together:
And here's a more artsy Photoshopped interpretation of the same shot:

These are my favorites:
Bethany made 2 cranes, Justin made 1 and I made all the rest. They're actually really easy once you memorize the steps. Traditionally, you're supposed to make 1,000 of them and it's supposed to be really lucky, but we don't have the kind of scratch to be buying 1,000 pieces of origami paper. I actually calculated it and it would cost approximately $810.00. Um, yeah, I think I'd be "lucky" if Justin didn't give me a black eye for spending that kind of money. Meanwhile, Sebastian's birthday is this Friday! He's gonna be 5!! We did some birthday stuff this past weekend, so he won't be getting a lot of presents on his actual birthday day, but we're gonna get him some next week. For his birthday day, we'll have cake and I'm gonna make him a cool shirt with Inuyasha on it. I love the plot description on IMDB. "A teenage girl periodically travels back in time to feudal Japan to help a young half demon recover the shards of a orb of great power." Yes, this is the weird kind of stuff that my not quite 5 year old likes to watch. Anyway, Inuyasha is the title character, the young half demon. But, he's actually a good guy. I'm also gonna try and make him a Naruto headband using this tutorial. As you can see, Sebastian is way more into anime than regular cartoons. So, this weekend we went to this really awesome restaurant, Aquarium. I tried to take pictures, but it's really dark in there and if you have the flash on, it makes a glare off of all the aquariums. Anyway, it was amazing and the kids loved it. Then we played a round of Glow Golf. It's miniature golf, but it's dark and there are black lights and the clubs and balls and all the little obstacles and stuff are black light reactive. It was pretty fun! So, till tomorrow peeps!
